St George Airport

I have some exciting news for St George and surrounding area residents.  The FAA has approved funding for a new airport in Washington County.  The airport will be in St. George but right on the line between St. George and Washington Fields.   This new runway will be a major improvement over the current runway because you will be able to fly and land much larger aircraft in and out of St. George.  They are also talking about bringing in a major carrier to better service St. George. 

Current plans have construction starting in 2009 but I personally will be surprised if they start before 2010 or 2011.  St George also got approval to build a belt route to help service the airport and to relief traffic on some of the major streets that service outter areas of St. George.  

If anyone has lived in St. George for any decent amount of time you will know this is great news!  St George has long ignored its traffic problems and it great that they are finally addressing some of these issues.
